Who is Lance Dunn?
To start, I could tell you about my education, track record, and overview of my career. That would be the obvious place to start. I don’t think it paints the most complete picture of who I am, but we will start there anyway.
After High School, I spent four years in the United States Navy stationed in San Diego with the HS-4 Helicopter Squadron. During those years, I traveled around the world and back twice. After I was discharged, I drove across country back to New Jersey. I worked full time, and went to school, where I eventually got an Associate’s Degree in Computer Science, and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. I worked various careers during my schooling years, including construction, and Information Technology. All through that time, I knew I wanted to be in Real Estate, so, I got a job as a Property Manager. I quickly found that it was not the area of Real Estate where I wanted to stay. It was time for me to launch my REAL career into Real Estate Sales. I then worked with investors to put together ‘Fix-and-flip’ projects. I found that to best serve those investors, I needed to get my Real Estate license. My business continued to grow, and I found myself helping more and more people get into their next DREAM HOME. I was loving every minute of it, and discovered that this is the place where I am supposed to be.
So…. That’s where I’ve been. In order to complete the picture of me, I would like to talk about what I stand for. It can be summed up with my definition of the term “Real Estate Agent”. The ‘Real Estate’ part is obvious. It’s the word ‘Agent’ that I want to focus on.
An agent is someone who acts on behalf of another. That is what I do. If it does not sound significant, let me contrast it with some words that other agents in the industry use to define themselves: consultant, adviser, and concierge to name a few. Let’s dig deeper into the meaning of those words.
A consultant is someone who provides expert advice. An adviser is also someone who provides advice, although it might not be expert advice. According to Merriam Webster dictionary, a concierge is someone “whose job is to provide help and information.” While there are some aspects of consultant, adviser, and concierge that a Real Estate Agent does, it does not fully encompass the full role by a long shot. Furthermore, it is my belief that people who do not refer to themselves as an Agent do not fully understand the gravity of their responsibilities to their clients. Their clients are making a complete life change! The responsibility of the person helping them do that is enormous!
I even go a step further by adding the term Fiduciary to the list of things I am for my clients. A fiduciary not only acts on behalf of another, but they also put the other’s best interest in front of their own.
By using the term Agent and Fiduciary to define what it is that I do, I am able represent my clients ethically, with integrity, and in their best interest.
